“There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, the Father of all.” (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults p. 1)

RCIA
(Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)

Who:

The RCIA process is for adults interested in becoming Catholic who are unbaptized. The RCIA process also provides support and formation for those individuals baptized in another faith tradition who wish to complete their initiation into the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.

WHAT:

Drawn from the faith experience of the early Christian Church, RCIA is an on-going four-step process within the parish life. RCIA is designed to welcome new members into the Church and at the same time to lead every Catholic parishioner to deeper belief and renewal of his or her Christian Faith. There are no fees for RCIA.

WHEN:

*RCIA begins in September and concludes at the Easter Vigil Service the following year. Participants attend sessions on Sunday mornings as scheduled.

Inquiry: Inquiry or Pre-Catechumenate, as it is otherwise called, is the beginning of the process – a “no strings attached” opportunity to ask questions, share faith, and learn some basics from Scripture and Catholic tradition. The inquiry team is available following the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday mornings in the school library as scheduled.

Catechumenate: (From the Greek, meaning basic instruction) If you are unbaptized and wish to continue the RCIA process, you will participate in the Rite of Acceptance into the Catechumenate at a weekend Mass. This is the core instruction in Catholicism, with Scripture and faith sharing on Sunday mornings as scheduled.

Lenten Experience: A time for spiritual purification and enlightenment which spans the season of Lent and culminates at the Easter Vigil when those to be initiated are baptized, confirmed and share in the Eucharist for the first time.

Mystagogia: (From the Greek, meaning instruction in the mysteries) The new or “neophyte Catholics continue their faith formation after Easter as they begin full participation in parish life through a variety of activities such as bible study.

*Note: If you are baptized in another faith tradition and wish to become Catholic, once you have participated in Inquiry you will participate in Candidate Formation sessions scheduled on Sunday mornings. There are two cycles of Candidate Formation available, one that begins in September and concludes at the Feast of Christ the King (December) and one that begins in February and concludes on the Feast of Pentecost (May). Candidate Formation welcomes baptized adults who are seeking to complete their initiation through the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist or to be received into the full communion of the Catholic Church. You will begin the core instruction in Catholicism, with Scripture and faith sharing on Sunday mornings as scheduled.
