Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serve by helping the priests and deacons distribute Holy Communion at Mass. They also take communion to the homebound or to the hospitalized. The most important requirements are commitment, reliability, and sensitivity. They must be confirmed and attend the workshop that is offered to them. Ministers are assigned to the Mass of their choice.
You can find this month's schedule for both Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers here.
“When the Scriptures are read in Church, God himself is speaking to His people,
and Christ, present in His own word, is proclaiming the Gospel." (GIRM 29).
Lectors proclaim the Word of God to the congregation at weekend Masses and special occasions.
The lector must believe that Sacred Scripture is the Word of God and have deep respect for God’s presence in that Word. The most important requirements for a lector are reliability, commitment and preparation. Lectors should also be outgoing, friendly, good readers and have a strong voice. They attend a workshop where they are given training for the skills needed. Lectors are assigned to the Mass of their choice and may be asked to read at one or more Masses a month.
To be a proclaimer of the Word is an awesome ministry and responsibility! If you think God is calling you to become a lector or for more information, contact Barbara Remack at 356-4577 or BkloveR7@aol.com
