Pandemic Response

On Monday, March 16, the Bishop of Charleston announced that churches in the Diocese of Charleston will suspend public liturgical activities, including Masses, as a means of limiting the transmission of COVID-19 within our communities. This suspension began at noon on March 17, and will go through the end of the day April 1, 2020, subject to review on March 30, 2020.

This is not what we have hoped for, but we are grounded in the promise that Christ will always be with us.

"Join us" for Mass

Although we are not permitted to celebrate Masses publicly, our priests continue to celebrate Mass privately. For your participation, we are live-streaming Masses to our Facebook page, which is available publicly: facebook.com/visitstpeters.

  • Daily Mass: 10 AM in English

    • The basilica is open for private prayer Monday through Friday, 11 AM - 4:30 PM

  • Each Sunday, we will live-stream 2 private Masses:

    • 10 AM: English

    • 12 PM: Spanish

Deepen your faith

Limit your consumption of highly-charged social media and spend time instead on things that build your faith and advance the Kingdom of God.

  • Pray for all whose health and livelihood are affected by the coronavirus and the life-altering measures taken to limit its transmission.

  • Send your prayer requests to stpeters@visitstpeters.org; we will pray for you and we will forward your requests to our mighty e-prayer ministry.

  • Access high-quality Catholic content for the whole family at our parish FORMED account.

  • While you're unable to receive the Eucharist, pray for Spiritual Communion with the Lord:

My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.
