What is the role of the Sponsor? They accompany the candidate on their faith journey. Sponsors are an example and support for the candidate/catechumen. They aren’t required to have all the answers. Sponsors are part of the RCIA Team that includes, facilitators for the sessions, hospitality coordinators, prayer partners, retreat leaders, etc. It is the Parish Community that initiates one into the Catholic Church. A Sponsor must be 16 years of age and Confirmed in the Faith.
